Great question and one I simply can't answer because I don't have kids, i have cats and taking care of them is completely different. 

This question has been asked a few times in the forums, so what I'd like to do is have you take a gander through the forum called "while raising...people". You should be able to find your answer there and if not, you can do a search or post what questions you don't feel have been answered.
